Outcome

A mature tree fell onto a traditional Jersey granite cottage during a storm. The impact caused structural failure to the gable wall and roof. The policyholder instructed Peak Surveying to act independently of the insurer.

Mike McGrath conducted the initial damage inspection and prepared stabilisation specifications. The property was made safe, then assessed for full reinstatement.

Peak Surveying coordinated architects and structural engineers. Planning and building bye-law approvals were obtained. Competitive tender documentation was prepared and a contractor appointed.

McGrath administered the reinstatement contract from commencement through to practical completion. The property was fully reinstated to its original specification.

Settlement

A commercial tenant in St Helier’s financial district was served a terminal schedule of dilapidations. The landlord’s surveyor valued the claim at £253,000. The tenant instructed Peak Surveying two months before lease termination.

McGrath and McInnes conducted a lease analysis and visual survey. Discrepancies between the schedule and the lease obligations were identified. Direct surveyor-to-surveyor negotiation followed.

The claim was settled at £87,000. Peak Surveying operated independently throughout. No insurer instruction was accepted.
